Snow Shot features: a complete tour
Six small superpowers, one calm workflow: capture → clarify → share. Here is everything the tool does, feature by feature.
Capture modes — choose one, capture in one move
Full screen, a single window, a dragged region, a scrolling page, or a delayed shot for menus and hover states that vanish when you click. Multi-monitor setups are handled per-display, and a tray icon plus floating toolbar keep every mode within reach. Delayed capture (3 seconds by default) is the quiet hero of documentation work: open the menu, let the timer fire, and the menu is in the shot.
Annotation — explain in seconds
The annotation pass is where a screenshot becomes communication. Draw freehand, drop arrows and shapes, add text labels and numbered steps, highlight what matters and mosaic-blur what must stay private — license keys, faces, customer data. Everything happens in one clean pass right after capture, and Ctrl+F1 captures and copies the result straight to your clipboard for pasting into chat, docs or tickets.
Text recognition (OCR), tables & translation
Point Snow Shot at any image and it reads the text for you — error dialogs, scanned documents, photos of whiteboards, screenshots of code. Structured content is handled too: table recognition rebuilds rows and columns instead of dumping one long line of text. Recognized text can be translated in place. With the offline installer the OCR resources are bundled, so recognition runs locally on your machine; nothing needs to leave your computer. Full walkthrough: screenshot OCR guide.
Screen recording — show it instead of describing it
Some bugs take three paragraphs to describe and five seconds to show. Snow Shot records a focused region of your screen as video, with cursor context and clean audio, and can copy the recording straight to the clipboard for pasting into chat or a ticket. It is the fastest way to answer "can you show me?" — and the recording tools include trimming, so the dead air at the start never ships.
Pin to screen — keep the important part in view
Pin any screenshot — or clipboard content, or a file — above all other windows while you work from it: a design mock while you code, an error message while you search, a spec while you write. Pinned windows are managed as a set: restore the last closed one, hide or show them all, and switch between window groups. There is even a full-screen canvas mode (with click-through) for turning a capture into a working overlay.
Screenshot history — find it fast
Every capture is kept in a searchable history, so "I screenshotted that error last Tuesday" stops meaning a dig through your downloads folder. Recent captures stay organized and ready to re-copy, re-annotate or re-share.
Hotkeys & workflow details
| Action | Default |
|---|---|
| Screenshot | F1 |
| Capture & copy to clipboard | Ctrl+F1 |
| Pin clipboard content to screen | F3 |
| Restore last closed pinned window | Ctrl+F3 |
| Delayed screenshot | 3-second delay option |
Every shortcut is remappable, and hotkeys can be set to disable themselves automatically in fullscreen apps — no screenshot key firing in the middle of a game or a presentation. Appearance, export formats and storage locations are all in one settings panel.
